David Nelson currently resides in Washington, DC. Originally from Massachusetts, he received his B.S. in Photography from Ithaca College in 2005 and his Masters degree in teaching from Smith College in 2010. Along with his photography, he has been teaching in schools in Arkansas, Massachusetts, Maine, and now Washington.
In the summer of 2008, David Nelson returned to documentary photography when he went back to the rural town of Eudora, Arkansas where he taught elementary school. Eudora lies on the southern edge of the economically struggling Mississippi Delta and is currently coping with the closure of its public schools and a continuing history of economic divestment and emigration. In Eudora, with grants from the Ella Lyman Cabot Trust and the Puffin Foundation, Nelson taught a free digital photography class. Collaboratively with adults from the community, he also produced a photographic story of life in this small, isolated town in the rural South. The results of this work can be viewed at www.TheEudoraProject.com.
Selections of Nelson's landscape work can be seen at the Northlight Gallery in Kennebunkport, Maine.
